A song most associated with the singing of \u00a0Lily Morris<\/a>, though by the 1920s songwriters were increasingly moving away from selling the exclusive performance rights to individual artists. This may have been a so-called “free song” as it was also sung by Florrie Forde<\/a>\u00a0 and Rosie Lloyd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was written and composed by Herbert Rule and Harry Castling<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The chorus and\/or some of the verses have been collected from folksingers in England, Scotland and Newfoundland.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
