Jeremiah Jones a lady's man was he\nEvery pretty girl he loved to spoon\nTill he found a wife and down by the sea\nWent to Margate for the honeymoon\nBut when he strolled along the promenade\nWith his little wife just newly wed\nHe got an awful scare\nWhen someone strolling there\nCame up to him and winked and said,\n\nHello, hello, who's your Lady friend?\nWho's the little girlie by your side\nI've seen you with a girl or two\nOh. Oh. Oh, I am surprised at you\nHello, Hello, stop your little games\nDon't you think your ways you ought to mend?\nIt isn't the girl I saw you with at Brighton\nWho, Who, who's your lady friend.<\/em>\n\nJeremiah Jones took his wife's mamma one night\nRound to see a moving picture show\nThere up on the screen a picture came in sight\nJeremiah cried, \u201cHe'd better go\u201d\nFor on that picture there was Jeremiah\nWith a pretty girl up on his knee\nMa cried, \u201cWhat does it mean?\u201d\nThen pointing to the screen\nThe people yelled at Jones with glee,\n\nJeremiah now has settled down in life\nSaid goodbye to frills and furbelows\nNever thinks of girls except his darling wife\nAlways takes her everywhere he goes\nBy Jove, why there he is you naughty boy\nWith a lady too, you're rather free\nOf course you'll stake your life\nThe lady is your wife\nBut tell me on the strict Q.T.\n\nChristmas pantomime was Jones's chief delight\nOnce he madly loved the Fairy Queen\nThere behind the scenes he spooned with her one night\nSome one for a lark pulled up the scenes\nAnd there was poor old Jones up on the stage\nWith his arms around the lady fair\nThe house began to roar\nFrom Gallery down to floor\nThen everybody shouted there,<\/pre>\n\n\n\n

With words by Worton David <\/a>and Bert Lee<\/a>, composed by Harry Fragson, Who’s your lady friend?<\/em> was a hit in the Halls in before the Great War for Harry Fragson and then during it for Mark Sheridan. In reality in that period it was being sung all over the place! It was revived by Stanley Holloway during the Music Hall revival of the late 50s.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

As far as I can tell it’s never been collected from traditional source singers, but that’s possibly because it’s so widely sung that it would never have been thought to be important enough to record?<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
